PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device with improved front luminance.SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device includes a backlight unit, a light converting member, a selective reflective member, a liquid crystal cell, and a display-side polarizer arranged in this order. The back light unit includes a light source that emits non-polarized light having an emission center wavelength of 300 nm or more and less than 430 nm. The selective reflective member reflects 60 to 100% of non-polarized light incident to the member and transmits light at a wavelength of 430 to 650 nm. The light converting member includes an oriented phosphor material which emits, by the non-polarized light incident to the light converting member, blue light that has an emission center wavelength of 430 to 480 nm and is linearly polarized in a direction parallel to an absorption axis of the display-side polarizer, green light that has an emission center wavelength of 500 to 600 nm and is linearly polarized in a direction parallel to the absorption axis of the display-side polarizer, and red light that has an emission center wavelength of 600 to 650 nm and is linearly polarized in a direction parallel to the absorption axis of the display-side polarizer. |
