PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical base material that has a large effect of improving color purity and includes a color material suppressing a reduction in luminance, and a display device using the same.SOLUTION: A display device includes a color filter having a plurality of colors of colored layers arranged thereon and a light source, and an optical base material that is arranged on a light path from the light source to the color filter in the display device. The optical base material contains at least one color material selected from the group consisting of a metal complex compound represented by a specific structural formula and a J associate of cyanine dye represented by a specific structural formula, and has an absorption maximum wavelength of 580 nm or more and 610 nm or less; and the display device uses the optical base material.
