METHOD FOR PRODUCING POLYHYDROXY NAPHTHALENE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing polyhydroxy naphthalene which is useful as a dye intermediate, a resin intermediate, a pharmaceutical intermediate or a curing agent of resins and has high purity.SOLUTION: The method for producing polyhydroxy naphthalene comprises: a step 1 of producing a crude product of the polyhydroxy naphthalene from a naphthalene compound shown by formula (1) (in which n is an integer of 0-7; m is another integer of 1-8; m+n is a different integer of 3-8; M is H or an alkali metal) by an alkali fusion method; a step 2 of dissolving the crude product of the polyhydroxy naphthalene in an ester-based organic solvent to obtain a solution of the crude product of the polyhydroxy naphthalene; and a step 3 of adding an aromatic organic solvent to the obtained solution of the crude product of the polyhydroxy naphthalene to remove a precipitated solvent-insoluble component.
