<p>The present invention relates to a safety assistance apparatus on a steep slope which can prevent severe risk on a steep slope by slowing down vehicle speed when a vehicle is on the steep slope and in rapidly accelerating at the same time by using altitude information of a traveling road and acceleration information of the vehicle, and to a method for controlling vehicle speed thereof. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the provided safety assistance apparatus comprises: a GPS reception unit receiving location information from a GPS satellite and altitude information matched to the location information; a measurement unit measuring the acceleration of the vehicle; and an electronic control unit controlling the vehicle to slow down the speed when the vehicle is on the steep slope and in rapidly accelerating by determining whether the vehicle is on the steep slope by comparing the altitude information received from the GPS reception unit with reference altitude information, and determining whether the vehicle is in rapidly accelerating by comparing an acceleration value measured by the measurement unit with a reference acceleration value.</p> |
