<p>A binding device (10) that aligns sheets of paper on which images are formed and performs a binding process comprises a compiling unit (40) that aligns sheets of paper into a sheet bundle. The compiling unit has a pair of joggers for aligning sheets of papers into a sheet bundle and a driving mechanism (800) that performs an alignment operation by moving the pair of joggers to a standby position in which sheets of paper to be transported are received and to an aligning position in which the received sheets of paper are aligned. Each of the pair of joggers comprises a movable guide (41a, 42a) that performs an alignment action for aligning the sheets of paper and an opening-and-closing guide (41b, 42b) that can open and close with respect to the movable guide. The binding device further comprises an opening-and-closing means (810a, 810b) for closing the opening-and-closing guide during the alignment operation from the standby position, moving the sheet bundle that has been aligned and bound to a discharging position, and releasing the opening-and-closing guide at the time of discharge so as to allow the sheet bundle to be discharged thereat. As a result, the binding device can be made smaller and the space required for when the pair of joggers discharge a bound sheet bundle can be reduced.</p> |
