PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light emitting element which can successfully reduce speckle noise despite a simple structure.SOLUTION: A light-emitting element comprises: a light emission region 11 which is composed of a lamination structure 20 including a first compound semiconductor layer 21, an active layer 23, and a second compound semiconductor layer 22; and a light propagation region 17 which is composed of the lamination structure and extends from the light emission region 11 and has a light emission end face. The light emission region 11 includes a ridge stripe structure part 12 and ridge stripe adjacent parts 13 which lie on both sides of the ridge stripe structure part 12. When assuming that a thickness of the second compound semiconductor layer in the ridge stripe adjacent part 13 is d, a thickness of the second compound semiconductor layer in the light propagation region 17 is dand a thickness of the second compound semiconductor layer in the ridge stripe structure part 12 is d, d>d>dis satisfied. |
