This game system comprises a plurality of game devices that run individual match games in which players participating in an event game play against each other and a server device that is connected to the plurality of game devices over a network. The server device comprises: a matching processing unit that selects players to be mutual opponents from the plurality of players participating in the event game; an event game progress information generating unit that generates event game progress information for allowing each of the individual match games between the players selected by the matching processing unit to progress in sequence; and an event game controlling unit that, when a start request for the event game is received from any of the plurality of game devices, causes the game device making the start request to run the individual match game to be started in the sequence based on the event game progress information.
