The yarns laid on Java canvas for knotting into the pile of a carpet are held in place by a series of stiffly elastic strips shaped in a series of U profiles, each indentation holding a yarn. This gives a parallel and regularly spaced yarn layout across the canvas to prevent the teeth of the knotting machine being fouled, eliminating the need to remove any residual adhesive and giving simplified and cheaper production.
