The closure member 19 of a relief valve is integral with a damping piston 20 defining a chamber 9 having restricted communication with outlet 18 via the clearance around the piston, groove 12 and passages 13. A guide 21 transmits the load of spring 5 to the closure member. A discharge space 24 surrounding the closure member has a smaller effective flow area than outlet 18. As a modification, chamber 9 can be of larger diameter than piston 20 to provide a constant restrictive effect between the chamber and the outlet.</p> |
