<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect early during continuous casting the abnormality of a two-fluid spray nozzle in a secondary cooling zone of a continuous casting machine. <P>SOLUTION: The method for detecting the abnormality of the two-fluid spray nozzle that composes the secondary cooling zone of the continuous casting machine includes (a1) measuring pressure and flow on the secondary side of a flow regulating valve for regulating the flow of cooling water fed to the two-fluid spray nozzle, and comparing them with a predetermined pressure-flow reference line to obtain a pressure difference, (a2) measuring pressure and flow on the secondary side of a flow regulating valve for regulating the flow of air fed to the two-fluid spray nozzle, and comparing them with a predetermined pressure-flow reference line to obtain a pressure difference, and (b) detecting the abnormality of the two-fluid spray nozzle from a combination of the pressure difference of cooling water and the pressure difference of air.
