PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a semiconductor optical modulator and an optical semiconductor module that can achieve a miniaturization in a lateral width direction with improved wavelength accuracy and optical output accuracy.SOLUTION: In a waveguide type optical modulator 4 including an optical waveguide 5, an effective range of a light propagation possessed by the optical waveguide 5 at an end face of a light emission side of a waveguide type optical modulator 4, that is, a region outside the region where a basic mode light propagating through a semiconductor optical waveguide structure is distributed is treated obliquely and symmetrically in the transverse direction around the center of the optical wave guide 5. |
