The invention relates to novel strains of microalgae belonging to the Cyclotella cryptica species and enabling the high-yield production of lipids, in particular eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and/or docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), in mixotrophic mode, as well as to a method for selecting and culturing said strains using a variable and/or discontinuous supply of light, in particular in the form of flashes.
