<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a structure capable of bringing a spur into contact with or separating it from a recording medium according to the thickness of the recording medium without using an additional member. <P>SOLUTION: While a recording paper sheet is transported, the recording paper sheet is sandwiched between a third pair of rollers 44. In other words, while the recoding paper sheet is transported, the recoding paper sheet contacts with a second spur 46. The sandwiched position 92 of the recoding paper sheet at which it is sandwiched between the third pair of rollers 44 is located above a sandwiched position 90 of the recording paper sheet at which it is sandwiched between a first pair of rollers 58. Meanwhile, while a medium tray 71 on which a recording medium is placed is transported, the second spur 46 does not move though lower rollers 61, 62, and 45 of the respective pairs of rollers 58, 59, and 44 move downward. In this structure, the second spur 46 is transported along a transport path 65 and sandwiched between the first pair of rollers 58 to be located above the upper surface (position A) of the media tray 71.
