<p>Insulator paste for preventing reaction and caking between adjoining surfaces in firing ceramics, e.g. steatite, partic. between article and support or fuel capsule wall, contains mainly SiO2 and consists of suspension with dry constituent particle size distribution of 0.35 wt. % 300-1000 mu, 15-35 wt. % 200-300 mu, 10-25 wt. % 100-200 mu, 5-15 wt. % 40-100 mu, 5-15 wt. % 10-40 mu, 10-30 wt. % 6-10 mu, 6-20 wt. % 1-6 mu and 2-6 wt. % 1 mu, where coarser constituents are mainly of sand and SiO2 and finer constituents of "Sikron" e.g. "Sikron F 500" (RTM) and bentonite which can partly be replaced by montmorillonite. Finest components are wet-ground for 24 hrs., sand grains are added to slip and thin layer of compsn. is applied to firing-supports and capsule inner walls and dried, opt. after applying a thin intermediate suspension layer of lean alkali-deficient clay on surface to be insulated.</p> |
