[Also in Divisions B4-B5] In a machine for cutting sheets into smaller pieces, a stack of sheets W, Fig. 2A, is advanced over rollers 2 by a catch depending from a cylinder 12 carried on a traverse unit 8 which runs along rails 28, 29. The catch 12 is then raised and the unit 8 moved so that saws carried thereby trim the stack and cut pieces W<SP>1</SP>, W<SP>11</SP>, W<SP>111</SP> from the leading end thereof. The pieces lie on rails 6 above rollers 34, Fig. 5, which are raised to cause the pieces to move sideways from the machine. The catch 12 is lowered and the workpiece W further advanced by movement of the unit 8 until the leading end of the workpiece is fed between endless belts 36a, 36b, Fig. 6. Saws 14a, 15a trim and cut the workpiece as it is fed by the belts and subsequently by rollers 16a, 16b. The cut pieces e.g. WA, of the workpiece pass on to rollers 77 and are advanced through different distances by transport mechanisms, e.g. 17a comprising clamping devices 21<SP>1</SP>. The devices 21<SP>1</SP> are lowered to clamp the workpieces as their leading edges are trimmed, and then the devices are raised and advanced by cables 81 to feed the cut pieces from the machine.</p> |
