A combined radiation therapy and magnetic resonance unit, comprising: a magnetic resonance device with an annular interior space arranged to longitudinally extend along an axial direction to receive the body of a patient, wherein the annular interior space is circumferentially limited in a radial direction perpendicular to the axial direction by a main magnet comprising magnetic coils, wherein the main magnet is disposed at a first radial distance along the radial direction to longitudinally continually enclose the annular interior space which receives the body of the patient; and a radiation therapy device that irradiates an area of the body of the patient within the annular interior space, wherein a portion of the radiation therapy device is disposed at a second radial distance along the radial direction, the second radial distance being shorter than the first radial distance so that the portion of the radiation therapy device is within the annular interior space that is circumferentially limited in the radial direction by the main magnet.
