The present invention relates to: an arabinogalactan composite polysaccharide, wherein a galactose structure isolated from the aerial part of Astragalus membranaceus and a sugar chain structure of 3,6-branched galactose alternately exist, and the galactose is connected with plenty of monosaccharides; an immune adjuvant pharmaceutical composition or health functional food containing the polysaccharide or an Astragalus membranaceus aerial part polysaccharide fragment including the polysaccharide as an active ingredient; an oral or mucous administrated vaccine including the immune adjuvant pharmaceutical composition; a vaccine supplementary agent containing the polysaccharide or the Astragalus membranaceus aerial part polysaccharide fragment including the polysaccharide as an active ingredient; and a method for isolating polysaccharide having an immune adjuvant activity. A galactose structure and a sugar chain structure of 3,6-branched galactose alternately exist in an aerial part of the Astragalus membranaceus, and a polysaccharide fragment including an arabinogalactan composite polysaccharide, in which the galactose is connected with plenty of monosaccharides, is included, so that an activity as a strong immune adjuvant agent is exhibited and a low cythemolysis activity (0.66%) is exhibited. Accordingly, side effects are rare, and a long remaining period of two month is ensured. Moreover, a very stable shape is ensured, so that the same is expected to be utilized as an assisting agent exhibiting an immunity reinforcing effect.
