PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the wear of a non-paper feed area of a fixing member to extend the life of the fixing member.SOLUTION: A fixing device according to the present invention includes a fixing member 28, a pressure member that is brought into pressure contact with the fixing member 28, and a separation member 32 that separates a recording medium from the fixing member 28. The fixing member 28 includes a paper feed area R1 through which the recording medium passes, and a non-paper feed area R2 provided outside the paper feed area R1. The separation member 32 includes a separation plate 88 arranged opposite to the paper feed area R1 with an interval therebetween, and a contact piece 89 that is brought into contact with the non-paper feed area R2 at a first load when a toner image is fixed to the recording medium and is brought into contact with the non-paper feed area R2 at a second load lower than the first load during a stand-by period. |
