PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: a negative electrode material obtained by mixing carbon conventionally used as a negative electrode material and scale-like fine powder that achieves further improvement in performance of carbon as a negative electrode material and has properties capable of occluding/eliminating silicon; and a lithium secondary battery using the negative electrode material.SOLUTION: A negative electrode material can be obtained by mixing carbon and scale-like fine powder obtained by finely crushing one of a thin film (A) or a thin film (B). The thin film (A) is formed of (a) a layer of one of simple substances of a metal simple substance, an alloy or a metal compound which can reversibly occlude/eliminate lithium, or a lamination layer of a plurality thereof. The thin film (B) is formed by using both layers to be laminated in two layers or more in total, both layers including (a) a layer of one of simple substances of a metal simple substance, an alloy or a metal compound which can reversibly occlude/eliminate lithium and (b) a layer of one of simple substances of a metal simple substance or an alloy which cannot reversibly occlude/eliminate lithium. |
