PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically set an illumination region or an image display region such that deterioration of display image quality of the image display region is suppressed, in an image display device capable of using a part of a screen as illumination when observing an object whose image is interpreted through it.SOLUTION: An image display device includes: light emission means capable of individually controlling a light emission amount in each of a plurality of regions constituting a screen; display means displaying an image on the screen; and control means setting an illumination region performing display with a prescribed luminance and an image display region displaying the image with a luminance lower than the prescribed luminance, inside the screen. The control means sets the image display region on the basis of influence of light leakage from the illumination region, inside a region from which the illumination region inside the screen is removed.
