PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a collision energy absorption device which has a simple design for absorbing collision energy and which does not require the surrounding space.SOLUTION: A railway vehicle collision energy absorption device 1A comprises: an energy absorption element 4 for being collapsed during collision; and a housing 5 extending in a longitudinal direction of the vehicle so as to store the energy absorption element therein. One end of the housing 5 is supported with a main construction of the railway vehicle. The housing 5 is formed of plural cylindrical bodies 51 coupled at overlapping parts each other, and during collision, the coupled parts of the cylindrical bodies 51 are broken and shrunk in a telescopic state.
