PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and method for detecting an object caught in a vehicle automatic door, configured to detect that something has been caught in the door with high accuracy.SOLUTION: An apparatus for detecting that a foreign substance has been caught in a moving sliding door mounted on a vehicle includes: an encoder 16 which detects a moving speed of the sliding door; and an ammeter 15 for measuring motor current flowing in a motor 17 which drives the sliding door. A deceleration of the sliding door is determined on the basis of the moving speed of the sliding door. When the deceleration reaches a preset threshold deceleration, monitoring mode is entered to monitor the change in motor current. During the monitoring mode, when an integrated value Ia of a detection current and a reference current exceeds a threshold current Ith, a determination is made that something has been caught in the sliding door. Highly accurate detection can be enabled, accordingly. |
