PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas laser device capable of outputting a laser pulse with a short pulse width, without using a light modulation element.SOLUTION: High frequency power for excitation is supplied to a silent-discharge pumped gas laser from a power source. A control unit sends to the power source a start command to start the supply of the high frequency power to the gas laser and a stop command to stop the supply of the high frequency power. The control unit sends to the power source the start command and the stop command repeatedly at least two times in the order. A standby time from the stop command to the next start command is shorter than the life of the upper laser level of a laser medium of the gas laser.
