PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve permanently accurate backlight determination and to perform exposure control in accordance with a determination result.SOLUTION: An AE processing circuit 13 acquires: first brightness information by measuring brightness of a main subject image indicating a main subject in first image data obtained in accordance with light from the main subject; and second brightness information by measuring the brightness of a photographer image indicating a photographer in second image data obtained in accordance with the light from the photographer. A CPU 15 determines whether or not the main subject image is in a backlight state in accordance with the first and the second brightness information and performs exposure control related to the main subject image on the basis of a determination result when determining that the main subject image is in the backlight state.
