PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an image with higher quality.SOLUTION: A fundus image capturing apparatus captures a wide-angle fundus image under proper exposure conditions for a peripheral area different from an optic disk part of a fundus oculi area, and detects the optic disk part from the wide-angle fundus image. The fundus image capturing apparatus captures a narrow angle fundus image with the area of the optic disk part as a subject under proper exposure conditions for the area of the optic disk part on the basis of the detection result of the optic disk part. The fundus image capturing apparatus synthesizes the wide-angle fundus image and the narrow angle fundus image to generate a synthetic fundus image with high dynamic range. This invention is applicable to the fundus image capturing apparatus.
