The gear (10) has a knuckle (40) articulated with a balance (15) by an articulation (41) and with a jack-shock absorber (20) by second articulation (42). The knuckle has a support portion (43) supported on a stop (19) of the balance when the gear is in a deployed position during which the jack-shock absorber does not exceed a threshold of retraction of extension stem (30) in a body (25). A swinging device (50) angularly raises the jack-shock absorber in order to place the gear in a retracted gear position when the jack-shock absorber exceeds the threshold. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a landing gear in a housing of aircraft.
