A device discovery method and a user equipment, and a network-side device, which relate to the field of wireless communications. The method disclosed in the embodiments of the present invention comprises: a user equipment acquiring device discovery configuration information, the device discovery configuration information at least comprising information used for indicating a time domain position of a device discovery radio resource; the user equipment determining a radio resource position for sending a D2D discovery signal according to the device discovery configuration information; and the user equipment sending the D2D discovery signal in the determined radio resource position, wherein the device discovery radio resource indicated by the device discovery configuration information is a device-to-device dedicated resource and has a specific configuration period in a time domain. Further disclosed are a user equipment and a network-side device. By means of the technical solution of the present application, the discovery problem of a device-to-device communication system can be solved, and a UE being compatible with an idle state and a connected state conducts device-to-device discovery.
