The present invention relates to a composition comprising dihydroartemisinic acid or a pharmaceutically, cosmetically, or food acceptable salt thereof as an active ingredient for preventing and treating obesity and/or lipid-related metabolic diseases. The composition of the present invention blocks differentiation of fat of immature adipocytes, thus can be safely applied to drugs, cosmetics, and functional foods for preventing, treating, and alleviating lipid-related metabolic diseases such as obesity, type 2 diabetes, hyperlipidemia, cardiovascular diseases, and atherosclerosis that occur due to excessive accumulation of lipids.
