1. A method of identifying an agent as an inhibitor of sarcoma or carcinoma cell invasion or as an inhibitor of metastasis of a carcinoma or sarcoma, comprising contacting a preparation comprising a growth factor receptor and a protein-tyrosine phosphatase 1b (PTP1b) in the presence of an amount of MenaINV and an amount of Mena and quantifying the association of the growth factor receptor and PTP1b in the presence of the agent and in the absence of the agent, wherein an agent that increases the association of growth factor receptor and PTP1b in the presence of the agent as compared to in the absence of the agent is identified as an inhibitor of sarcoma or carcinoma cell invasion or of metastasis, and an agent that does not increase, or decreases, the association of growth factor receptor and PTP1b in the presence of the agent as compared to in the absence of the agent is not identified as an inhibitor of sarcoma or carcinoma cell invasion or metastasis. |
