PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce deterioration of a member caused by an AC component even in the use of a transfer bias that includes a DC component and an AC component.SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus has a secondary transfer power source 39 that applies a secondary transfer bias to a secondary transfer nip, the secondary transfer bias including a DC component and an AC component, and the secondary transfer nip being formed between an intermediate transfer belt 31 whose surface is moved and a secondary transfer roller 36 disposed opposite the surface of the intermediate transfer belt. The image forming apparatus is configured such that a toner image held on the surface of the intermediate transfer belt surface is transferred to recording paper P, passed through the secondary transfer nip, by the action of a secondary transfer nip. The image forming apparatus has a control section 60 that exerts control such that, during the movement of the surface of the intermediate transfer belt and during a paper non-passage period in which recording paper is not passed through the secondary transfer nip, an AC component alteration period is present, in which the AC component is not applied or the peak-to peak voltage of the AC component is made lower than that during the image formation. |
