[Also in Divisions B8 and C3] An opacifyer for paper &c consists of microcapsules having an air core and a polymeric wall e.g. of thermosetting or thermoplastic material, the diameter of the capsules being not substantially greater than 1 micron (see Division B8). They may be coated onto paper in a suspension in a suitable liquid such as water, optionally containing a binding agent e.g. methyl- or hydroxyethyl-cellulose or starch. The microcapsules may also be coated onto metals, glass, wood, plaster or fabrics.</p> |
