PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal head capable of decreasing specific resistance of an electric resistance layer without increasing the thickness of the electric resistance layer, and a thermal printer comprising the same.SOLUTION: A thermal head X1 includes a base plate, an electric resistance layer 15 that is provided on the base plate, and a pair of electrodes 17 and 19 that are provided on the electric resistance layer 15 and provided separately from each other so that the electric resistance layer 15 can be partially exposed. The electric resistance layer 15 contains Cr, Si and O, and a Cr content is in the range of 65-95 atom%.
