摘要 <p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten the decoding time of a Reed-Solomon code. <P>SOLUTION: An error position search unit 463 comprises two chien search circuits 4632 which search an error position where the value of an error position polynomial becomes 0 by sequentially modifying position data indicating the position of a symbol in an input symbol sequence (sector data), and a search control circuit 4631 which controls operation of the two chien search circuits 4632. The search control circuit 4631 controls two chien search circuits 4632 to execute the search of error position independently and in parallel for the positions of different symbols in the input symbol sequence.
