PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sensor for detecting gaseous substances, in particular a sensor for detecting the presence of substances in a gaseous phase or gas stream.SOLUTION: The sensor comprises a sensing element 8 disposed to be exposed to the gas stream. The sensing element 8 comprises a working electrode 12, a counter electrode 14, and a layer 16 of ion exchange material extending between the working electrode 12 and the counter electrode 14, whereby contact of the ion exchange layer 16 with the gas stream forms an electrical contact between the working electrode 12 and the counter electrode 14. The ion exchange material may be an ionomer, particularly a sulphonated tetrafluoroethylene copolymer. |
