PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transfer member which prevents a white spot from being generated in an image even if the size of a recording medium is changed.SOLUTION: An elastic layer 26B of a secondary transfer roll 26 contains a piezoelectric material whose volume is increased by a voltage applied. A higher voltage is applied between a secondary transfer roll 26 and an intermediate transfer belt 20 in a non-paper-passing part than in a paper-passing part, due to a gap formed between the secondary transfer roll 26 and a back face roll 24, to increase the volume of the piezoelectric material of the elastic layer 26B in the non-paper-passing part. When the volume of the piezoelectric material is increased, a surface (outer circumferential surface) of the elastic layer 26B in the non-paper-passing part is swollen, to eliminate the gap or reduce the distance of the gap G formed between the secondary transfer roll 26 and the intermediate transfer belt 20. |
