PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide 1,7-diazacarbazole compounds, which are useful as kinase inhibitors, particularly as checkpoint kinase 1 (chk1) inhibitors and useful in cancer therapy, pharmaceutical compositions containing the compounds, and methods of using the same.SOLUTION: The present invention provides 1,7-diazacarbazole compounds represented by the formulas (I), (I-a) and (I-b), compositions for treating cancer containing the same, and methods of using the compounds for in vitro, in situ, and in vivo diagnosis or treatment of pathological conditions. [In the formulas, X, Y and Z represent nitrogen atoms or the like, and R, R, Rand Rrepresent hydrogen atoms or the like.]
