PURPOSE: A method of playing video contents by using a skip function and a method of generating a thumbnail image by using the skip function are provided to play the video contents from a part in which a user wants. CONSTITUTION: A start play of the video contents is selected(S110). The color distribution of a key frame comprising the video contents is analyzed(S120). The video contents skip to the key frame which is located after the specified time from the key frame, when the color distribution of the key frame is subcritical(S132). The video contents are the video contents compacted to a MPEG mode.
