[Problem] To provide a forward-osmosis hollow-fiber membrane element that has excellent contamination resistance and in which flow pressure loss is small (i.e., the amount of permeated water is large). [Solution] Disclosed is a both-ends-open-type forward-osmosis hollow-fiber membrane element in which both ends of a hollow-fiber-membrane rolled-up body are open, said hollow-fiber-membrane rolled-up body having hollow-fiber membranes arranged in an intersecting manner by helically winding the hollow-fiber membranes around a porous distribution pipe, wherein the number of winds, per the length of said element, of said hollow-fiber membranes arranged in an intersecting manner in said hollow-fiber-membrane rolled-up body is from 0.33 to 1.75. It is preferable that the outer diameter of the hollow-fiber membrane is from 160 to 270 µm. It is preferable that the outer diameter of the hollow-fiber-membrane rolled-up body is from 100 to 420 µm, and the length thereof is from 0.2 to 1.6 m.
