1. A method of using a robotic surgical system to assist a surgeon in preparing a hole in a spine of a patient and placing a screw in the hole during an operation, the method comprising:
measuring, by a measurement system, a position of a surgical tool held by a robot and a position of the patient, wherein the robot rigidly holds the surgical tool in place thereby ensuring the surgical tool is aligned with a trajectory defined by the surgeon at least one of intra-operatively and pre-operatively; determining, by the robotic surgical system, a change in the position of the patient; and adjusting, automatically by the robotic surgical system, the position of the robot based at least in part of the change in the position of the vertebrae such that a spatial relationship between the robot and the vertebrae remains substantially unaltered as the operation is performed, thereby ensuring the surgical tool remains aligned with the trajectory as a hole in the vertebrae is prepared and/or a screw is placed in the hole. |
