Outward deflection, under the extrusion pressure, of the orifice defining interchangeable lips 14, 15 of a flat film or sheeting die for the extrusion of thermoplastics material e.g. for coating support webs, is minimized by feeding plasticized material from a central inlet passage 3, from an extruder, into a transversely extending enlarged duct 5 and then, via a plurality of bores 8 at each end thereof, into a further enlarged duct 7, extending transversely prior to the orifice 13. The ends of the orifice 13 and duct 5 are respectively defined by pistons 9 and lugs 19 extending therefrom, which are positionally adjustable by nuts 12 displaceable along a screw 11, the pistons 9 containing temperature sensing elements 18. The ends of duct 5 are closed by plugs 6 defining a width corresponding to the minimum adjustable width of the orifice 13. The lip 15 is adjustable, to vary the depth of the outlet of orifice 13, by means of bolts 17.
