PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper conveying device and a paper conveying method which can securely move paper along a width direction of a conveyance passage and bring to a predetermined position, and can suppress breakage of the paper when the paper is brought to the predetermined position in the width direction of the conveyance passage.SOLUTION: A paper conveying device 10 includes: a conveying member (for example, a drive roller 36 and a driven roller) which can slide along a width direction of a conveyance passage 11 and conveys paper along the conveyance passage 11; and a paper detection part (an inlet side paper detection sensor 70) which is arranged on an upstream side of the conveying member in a conveying direction of the paper along the conveyance passage 11, and detects a position of the paper in the width direction of the conveyance passage 11. A control part calculates a movement amount of the conveying member on the basis of the position of the paper in the width direction of the conveyance passage 11 detected by the paper detection part, and a predetermined position of the paper in the width direction of the conveyance passage 11 which is previously set. |
