Provided is an aqueous black ink composition which enables the formation of a recorded image having excellent light resistance and water resistance and also enables the provision of a black recorded image that is rarely discolored particularly upon the irradiation with light. An aqueous ink composition according to the present invention contains both a compound represented by formula (1), a salt of the compound or a mixture of the compound and a dye having a maximum absorption wavelength (λmax) falling within a range from 560 to 680 nm and also having a phthalocyanine backbone as at least dyes. In formula (1), R1, R2, R5, R6 and R7 independently represent a hydrogen atom, a carboxy group, a sulfo group, a nitro group or the like; R3 and R4 independently represent a hydrogen atom, a sulfo group or the like; and n represents 0 or 1.
