<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an axially-compact floating nut. <P>SOLUTION: The floating nut 1 includes a plate-like nut 2, and a holding member 3 for holding the nut 2. The holding nut 3 includes: a body part having a first through hole 320, and a second through hole 327 larger than a threaded hole 20; and a pressing part for pressing the nut 2 to the body part in the axial direction Z. A positioning means comprising an engaging protrusion and an engaging recess, and determining the position of the nut 2 with respect to the holding member 3 such that the threaded hole 20 is exposed on the surface side through the second through hole 327 is provided between the pressing part and the nut 2. Projections 21 are exposed on the surface side through the first through hole 320 when the positioning means decides the position of the nut 2 in a longitudinal direction Y and a horizontal direction X with respect to the holding member 3.
