PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for transmitting a reference signal (RS) from a transmission end in a radio communication system.SOLUTION: The RS transmission method and the apparatus include: confirming an RS resource defined on a layer-by-layer basis; and transmitting an RS precoded for each layer to a reception end through a multiple antenna, using the RS resource. The RS resource includes: a first index indicating an RS resource pattern group to which the precoded RS is mapped in a resource block; and a second index indicating a code resource to multiplex the precoded RS into the RS resource pattern group.
