Partitioned timed media data (e.g. video) to be streamed to a client's device is encapsulated in a stream, the data comprising timed samples (e.g. frames), each sample comprising a plurality of subsamples (e.g. tiles). After grouping several subsamples to form a group, at least two subsamples of the same group are selected and at least one track (306-2, 306-5) comprising the selected subsamples is created. For the created track(s), a sub-track box (fig. 15) can be created for each of the selected subsamples, at least one of the boxes comprising definitions and properties that are common to the selected sub-samples. Each of the created tracks is independently encapsulated in at least one media file. At least one of the sub-track boxes may comprise information to indicate that it is associated with a particular track providing tiling information. A group of samples or subsamples may be linked to at least one tile. |
