1278608 Liquid treatment of a web TANAKA IRON WORKS CO Ltd and C ITOH & CO Ltd 17 Oct 1969 [21 Oct 1968] 51124/69 Heading D1L A web is liquid-treated by passage round a drum-like device from which liquid is sprayed outwards, the device comprising a rotary shaft 1 having an axial feed bore and a plurality of transverse outlet bores 3 spaced along the length of the shaft, a plurality of fins 2 of circular periphery or a single spiral fin extending outwards from and spaced along the shaft, two circular end plates 4, each rotatably mounted on the shaft, and a plurality of variably inclined baffle plates 7 connecting the end plates at their periphery, the end and baffle plates enclosing the outlet bores and fin(s) and the outlet bores directing liquid on to the surface of the fin(s). The outlet bores may be radial (as shown) or radially inclined (Figs. 5 and 6). The fins 2 may be conical (as shown), flat (Fig. 5), disc-shaped (Fig. 6), or conical with a flat annular extension (Fig. 7). The baffle plates may be flat, curved or angular. The web may be in contact with the device (Fig. 2) or spaced therefrom by guide rolls (Figs. 3 and 11). It may pass round a series of staggered devices (Figs. 4, 8, 9 and 10). Each device of a series may be partially immersed in liquid in a collecting pan, liquid flowing from one pan to the next (Fig. 4). A single device carrying a web in endless loop form may be partially immersed in a liquid (Fig. 12). The liquid treatment may be desizing, dyeing or washing.
