Both the foams are made by mechanically beating a plastisol, viz a suspension of polyvinyl chloride in a liquid plasticizer, in the presence of air and an emulsifying agent, e.g. soap, and which are mechanically reinforced by incorporation into the foam, before, during or after formation of 2-20% liquid (based on the plastisol) of synthetic textile fibres which are of polyamide or polyester of 1-2 deniers and 0.1-6 mm. in length. In the examples the foams were made from a mixture of polyvinyl chloride, dioctyl phthalate, benzyl butyl phthalate, epoxydised soya oil, an emulsifier, polyamide fibres and optionally colouring.</p> |
