An apparatus for stabilising (shake or vibration compensation of) an image capture device such as a camera, binoculars or telescope comprises two or more rotatable bodies (masses) 1a, 1b mounted to a housing. Each rotatable body rotates about respective substantially parallel axes of rotation. A drive assembly rotates at least two of the rotatable bodies in opposite directions about their respective (parallel) axis of rotation, such that the sum of angular momentum generated by bodies rotating in a first direction is equal and opposite to that generated by bodies rotating in the opposite direction. Rotatable bodies may have substantially equal masses and rotation speeds. Generated angular momentum may be between 0.0001 N m s and 0.05 N m s, preferably between 0.0005-0.02 N m s, more preferably 0.002-0.006 N m s; rotating masses may be 5-600 g, e.g. 20-100 g; rotational speed may be 100-10000 rad / s, e.g. 1000-2000 rad / s. Masses may have diameters between 0.5-7 cm, e.g. 1-3 cm. Rotation of the spinning bodies (masses) may be controlled by output from a tilt detector. A kinetic energy generator recovery system can convert kinetic energy from the rotating bodies to electrical energy. The stabilising anti-shake apparatus may be detachably attachable to the imaging device.
|
