System and method and computer program product implemented for a cloud computing infrastructure that allows a hypervisor to optimize resource allocation in a cloud computing environment by exploiting the application-level performance, O/S system performance, and hypervisor performance information through a reliable and efficient channel.

1. A system for reliable data delivery in a cloud computing environment comprising one or multiple virtual machines (VM), each virtual machine running one or more applications, said system comprising:
a first hardware processor running a VM kernel level process and generating a system call to provide operating system level performance data regarding performance of a running VM; a second hardware processor running a host machine hypervisor level process for receiving said VM performance data via said system call; said first hardware processor running an application at said running virtual machine and generating a further system call to provide application performance metrics data of said running application to said running VM kernel level process, said running VM kernel level process responsively generating a hypercall relaying said application performance metrics data to a host machine hypervisor; and, said host machine hypervisor delivering said application performance metrics data and said system level performance data regarding said running virtual machine to a cloud controller to manage resources of said cloud computing environment.
