A method implemented in a mobile node of generating a network address for communicating over an Internet Protocol (IP) communication network, the method comprising: receiving or generating, by the mobile node, a first network address; cryptographically generating, by the mobile node, a second network address from the first network address so as to create a logical binding between the first and second network addresses, wherein cryptographically generating, by the mobile node, a second network address from the first network address comprises: generating, by the mobile node, a first hash value having a predetermined number of leading zeros from both a public key and a private key of a public/private key pair of the mobile node and a modifier; generating, by the mobile node, a second hash value from the modifier and the first network address; and generating, by the mobile node, the second network address from the second hash value; and communicating with a remote node over the communication network using the second network address.
